Gender Neutral

In these works, I have been exploring the balance between masculinity and femininity. This balance is in me and is expressed by the forms, materials and colors I have chosen to use. I considered hard lines and regular shapes to be masculine. More organic, hard to define shapes and lines, I consider to be feminine. Feminine materials I defined as those that were softer and more easily manipulated such as paper, fabrics and thin wires, while I defined masculine materials to be hard and/or brittle materials such as metal and wood. Masculine and feminine colors are not as defined as cool vs. warm colors or blues and greens vs. pinks and purples. This area is a mixture of several different theories and I consider it to be based on life experiences and, to me, is more subjective and without definable rules. Using these ideas as basic guidelines to start from, I have tried to incorporate masculine and feminine elements into each piece of work. The final effect is a flow of androgynous patterns and forms that create a subtle balance throughout my work.
